A simulacrum is a reproduction with no relation to any kind of reality, but which nevertheless ends up true. According to Aristotle the nature of a particular entity is the final stage to which it has progressed, and its passage from potential to deed, thus being a development which assumes constant action. The moment I decided to place a real tree next to its cement copy I chose to confirm a hypothesis that was not real but that was at the same time possible. I was interested in creating a simulacrum that looked like it was the result of a natural process, to fix a moment of transformation in an object; to use a different surface to describe its mimesis and its antithesis.
